Inlay

Terms of use

Last updated 9 October 2026

These terms cover the use of the Inlay app and website. By downloading or using Inlay, a person agrees to them. They are written to be short and readable.

What Inlay is

Inlay is a Windows program that inserts screenshots into the open Word document and writes a source line below each one. It is provided by one individual, reachable at kayra@inlay.works.

Licence

Each person who signs up gets a personal, non-transferable licence to use Inlay on their own computers. Inlay is currently free. Pricing may be introduced later. Any change will be announced on the website before it applies, and it will not be applied silently to a licence already in use.

The app may not be copied for resale, taken apart to reuse its code or artwork, or passed on under another name. The licence key may not be shared publicly.

Who it is for

Inlay is currently free to use. Access may be withdrawn if a sign-up turns out to be false or misused.

Citations stay the user’s responsibility

The source lines are a starting point. Inlay cannot read the author or publication date from a screenshot, so lines may be incomplete, and referencing styles can differ between courses and institutions. Anyone using Inlay is responsible for checking that every citation is correct and complete, and for following the academic integrity rules of their school or workplace.

No guarantees

Inlay is provided as it is. It works together with Windows and Microsoft Word, whose updates can change how it behaves. No promise is made that it is free of errors, or that it will work without interruption. Anyone using it should keep their work saved and backed up. To the extent the law allows, the maker is not liable for lost or damaged documents, or for indirect losses. Nothing here limits rights that cannot legally be limited.

Third-party names

Microsoft and Word are trademarks of Microsoft. Inlay is an independent program and is not made, endorsed or sponsored by Microsoft.

Privacy

How personal data is handled is described on the privacy page.
