DETAILS
The small stuff I cared about.
- Only real screenshots
- Copied images are ignored unless that option is switched on, so the document never fills with pictures copied by accident.
- Undo in one press
- Ctrl + Alt + Z removes the last screenshot and its label, or use Undo in the small pop-up.
- Text wraps around pictures
- Pictures can sit in the line of text or have the text wrap around them. One checkbox decides.
- Screenshot files tidy themselves
- Files can be deleted from the drive after pasting, so the Screenshots folder does not grow.
- Pause when needed
- Ctrl + Alt + X switches Inlay off and on again, and a small pop-up confirms which one.
- Preferences, one shortcut away
- Ctrl + Alt + Y opens Preferences, or click the cup next to the clock.
- Quiet confirmation
- A small pop-up and a soft click confirm each paste. Both can be switched off.
- Everything stays on the computer
- Nothing is uploaded, ever. Inlay only passes your screenshot from Windows to Word.
THE STORY
Why I created Inlay
Research and document preparation meant the same loop over and over: screenshot, switch to Word, paste, resize, go back to the website, copy the address, type the reference. Twenty screenshots in, the real work had barely started.
Inlay is that loop, gone. It is small on purpose: no cloud, no clutter, no fuss. It sits in the tray next to the clock and does one job well.
If it saves you even one hair on your scalp, it did what I built it for.
